Art Nouveau Room

This is my final for my Presentation class. We had to draw an Art Nouveau room and my professor wanted a lot of detail. We were given a floor plan and had to picture furniture pieces. While I did draw everything, a lot of it was tracing. I did it in 2D and then used Photoshop to put the objects into the correct perspective. After arranging them how I wanted them in the room, I printed it off and then traced my final. Not only did my professor want lots of detail, but he also wanted excellent line quality (no sketchy, squiggly lines) and depth. Because of all of my other finals, I did not start on this until about four days before it was due. Although I wanted to give up, I didn't and, while there are many things I wish I could have done better, I believe I did my best with the time I had. It was such a relief to get it done and be done with this semester!
What I learned...
Get projects done sooner rather than later
How to use Photoshop better
Photoshop is a miracle
I can draw!

Rug

After our sample board I got to design an area rug that would go in that office space. It is supposed to be contemporary. I played with a lot of different designs, but I finally went back to my room to find inspiration. It came from the glass drops that were part of a light fixture. Once I figured out what I was doing it was very easy to finish--it took just a day to do the entire thing. But that didn't include all of the ideation (thinking on paper) that I did, mostly during my science class. Actually now that I think of it, I have done most of my ideations in that class. My notebook that I was supposed to use to take notes has a bunch of sketches and phrases of design concepts in it. Anyway, I design my own logo which was fun and I got to come up with names for the colors I selected: acid green, gray mist, and winter sky.
What I learned...
It feels so good to get projects done early so you don't have to worry about them
Look for inspiration that can help guide you design
Naming colors is really fun

Sample Board

This is my first sample board. We were assigned a style and a room to pick out different materials for. I did a contemporary office and I had to design it around a side chair and mosaic tile. My favorite part was changing the chair I was given from its original red color to the teal color that matched the fabric. It was a little challenging at first figuring out what direction I wanted to go and to find materials that worked, but eventually everything pulled together and while there are some things I wish I would have done differently, I'm happy with how it turned out.
What I learned...
Be flexible- just because the chair is red in the picture doesn't mean it has to be red in the room
Don't use double stick tape to mount pictures on a board (it doesn't stay)
Try different arrangements to get the best one
Plan your board layout ahead before you cut the paper
