Art. Work. Cupcakes.
Recap of this past weekend: AMAZING! Saturday I went shopping and bought a dress and a belt (yay!) and then went to the Met with a friend. We saw the jaw-dropping Alexander McQueen exhibit. Somehow, some way you have to see it too! After the museum we walked around a lot and ended up eating lunch/dinner at Chipotle. It's like Costa Vida or Bajio but better. Is that possible? Maybe it tasted so good because I was so hungry...
Sunday was sunny, so after church my roommate and I headed to Central Park to soak up the sun. As I am writing this, it is (well...was) pouring rain. Crazy weather!
This week has been very busy at the office. On Monday, I helped out all day at a client's house for a photo shoot. It's for an online magazine, so when it's out I'll let you know. I even go to arrange some picture frames to go on the door. Today and yesterday I have been drafting rooms for various projects. Realization: I do not like hand drafting. AutoCAD is my best friend!
Here is a little peek at the office. These books shelves are filled with my kind of books. Big, colorful, with lots of gorgeous pictures. When I get sick of the sample room, I come here to flip through some inspiring pages.
This is the said sample room in it's original, disastrous state...
...piles and piles of fabric, tile, and wallpaper everywhere!
After a massive overhaul with the help of all five interns, it became relatively organized. You can actually see the table.
And since I have been drafting, I've been able to claim a desk for myself. I have my laptop (with the Beatles for my background of course), some inspiration photos on a bulletin board, and drafting supplies. I actually have a nice view of a church from my window, which you can't see because it's raining.
I forgot to add one last thing! And of course it's about food. I ate a most delicious cupcake from Crumbs on Saturday. Mmm good!

A Lovely Leisurely Day
Sleeping in today was glorious. I didn't think I could but it happened. My roommate and I went for a walk in Central Park. Then we got ready and met up with another friend to go to the MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art)! Modern art is, well, interesting. I liked this piece that had different colored paint brushes frozen in plexiglass.
There was this famous piece that was pretty cool. You might have heard of it: Waterlilies by Monet. :)
Wow.
I saw my most favorite vase, the Savoy Vase, by Alvar Aalto. So great.
This piece called Broadway Boogie Woogie was one I learned about in a class and I am in love with the name. There were a lot of pieces that we learned about in the museum.
Strolling around today in my tennis shoes made me feel like a tourist and I don't like standing out like that. Thanks to my investment in these shoes, most days are less touristy and more classy. I basically live in them now. Thank you Banana Republic for making beautiful, cushy shoes that match everything I own.
Wandering around the MoMA was wonderful. The slower pace was great and the temperature was refreshing after the hot, humid day. Once we emerged from the building (almost 4 hours later) we walked past Radio City Music Hall to Rockefeller Plaza for some lunch/dinner and Tri Tip Grill. Oh man the sandwich I got was meaty and amazing. I love chain restaurants in New York! While we walked through the building, I thought of Tina Fey on 30 Rock (though I don't watch that show...).
I am super tired and going to bed. Have a fabulous weekend!

Guernsey
I am in love with the book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I have just read it twice, immediately starting over after finishing it. For the second or third time. My friend who visited recently said that the last time she visited, I was reading it. I guess I must really like it.In the book, you get to know the characters through the letters that they write each another about books, authors, and the Occupation of the England and the Channel Islands during World War II. It's historical, sad, humorous, and subtly romantic--a story of people who endured a horrible time with their literary society and with each other.
Besides all of the above, I love it because I want to be there. Maybe I'll create a (dream) travel itinerary from Guernsey's official website. But for now I'm going to look at these great old photos of the island and resist the urge to read the book again.

Succulent Bouquets

Lately I have been really into succulents. They remind me of visits to my aunt's house. My sisters and I would play in the flower beds that were planted with roses, vines, and succulents. I don't recall seeing these plants before then and only recently did I learn their name. So now I am slightly obsessed (of course).
Since my sister is getting married soon, weddings have kind of been on the brain. Wedding blog browsing combined with childhood nostalgia of succulents leads to a post about succulent bouquets. Unique, exotic, and tactile, I especially love them with yellow, orange, and/or peach.
What do you think of these bouquets? Are they a funky variation on the generic bouquet of roses or lilies? Or are they just plain weird?
P.S. Does anyone know what the ruffly flowers in the first and third picture are called? I am also in love with them. They might be English roses, but I'm not sure.
P.P.S. The "succulent" link takes you to a website all about succulents, but be warned! The plant on the first page looks like the Rock Biter from the Neverending Story. That movie brings back more childhood nostalgia!

Kelly Wearstler
Recently, my friend introduced me to Kelly Wearstler. She designs interiors, creates her own fashion line, and paints fabric while standing on a chair. In heels. In sum, she's pretty inspiring. Check her out here. I especially like her monochromatic sample tray and her hip glasses.

New Dream House

I have lots of dream homes and this one has been added to my collection. This tiny cottage nestled in the forest with heavenly white interiors is 9' x 10' and was once a square hunting lodge. There is no bathroom or kitchen (minor details) and the bed is in a loft accessed only by a ladder. This article is all about it and has even more gorgeous images.

This made my day.

Usually I like rainy days. Usually I don't mind Mondays too much. Rainy Mondays combined with class at 7:45, started my week off a little roughly.
This gorgeous picture reminded me that little things in life, like pretty flowers, make sleepy rainy Mondays bearable. I have to remind myself that I'm trying to be positive.
On a happier note, I am three days sugar sober. Woo hoo! And today I got a bunch of compliments about my dress I wore. It's amazing what a kind word and a smile can do. Thanks, friends, for helping me feel pretty.

It's been a long week...
With the time change, every day has been a struggle to get out of bed. I hardly fix my hair. Doing my homework consists of staring at my list of things to do. My diet is 85% sugary stuffs. Needless to say, I've been feeling a bit pathetic.
But, the week is coming to an end and that means a new week with a new start. Some goals I have:
1. Get up when my alarm goes off, not 30 minutes (or an hour) later.
2. Work out (walking up the stairs in the Clarke does not count).
3. Make some headway on getting an internship as in have interviews!
4. Don't go out to eat and instead, eat things like fruits and veggies.
5. Stop complaining because life really is great right now.
And finally, the BIG goal. Not just for this week, but until school gets out (and maybe even longer)...
No more sweets! No more cupcakes from the Cocoa Bean. No more five chocolate chip cookies in less than 15 minutes (no matter how healthy my friend says they are). No more pie, cake, or ice cream. No more sweets! I need to be a rhino and charge at my goals!
We can have mid-March resolutions, right?

Huts
There is something magical about huts, specifically writing huts. My friend posted about them on her blog. This is Roald Dahl's writing hut, The Gipsy House. Love the yellow door.
And this is the hut of Dylan Thomas, the poet. I could almost write poetry in this space! Almost.
Great things are created in great places. That's one of the reasons why I'm an interior designer.
